Solace, Sanctuary, Subdue Spring 2025

There is a complicated relationship between a 20 something year old girl and the coping mechanisms that held her hand through her teenage years. While unhealthy, these habits carried her through her developmental years, allowed her to survive, and are cemented in her brain chemistry. She no longer wants to do these things. She knows their dangers. She knows they do more harm than good. Yet at times she finds her mind reminiscing on “the good ole days”. When she didn’t care about anything — so free yet so lost. How can one yearn for such painful times? Maybe she doesn’t remember the pain and instead remembers the ease of life when nothing matters. Or perhaps the cemented neurons miss holding her hand.
