Grief is a deep, sharp pain. It is stored throughout the body and echoes through the bones. Loss inflicts grief on multiple levels : grief of a loved one, of relationships altered, of innocence, and of comprehending the universe's one truth—death is imminent.
Each piece of this spine is a copper sheet that has been sawed, formed, filed, coated in vitreous enamel, connected by thin, sharp copper wire, and patinated with liver of sulfur. The form resembles a fish skeleton. Its strong metal core is coated in fragile, easily breakable glass. It appears worn and aged due to the over-fired, off-white enamel. Hung in front of the body, it resembles the sharp pain of death and grief that echoes through my bones and is reflected within my body.
