When I lost my father, many adults told me that I couldn’t just ignore what was happening, that I had to grieve and process the pain. I understood the notion then as well as I understand it now. Yet, knowing that there would be consequences in denial didn’t change my plan of action. My brain made an executive decision to protect itself.
The backing of this piece features neuron-like forms that arch around and set the ovals in place. The enamel ovals covering my eyes display a scene of birds migrating away from dark and cloudy skies. Birds migrate for a myriad of reasons, one of them being safety.
